On March 1, 2016, Powell River Voices hosted a community conversation about child poverty in the region and what regular citizens can do to address the issue. Our featured guest speaker was Adrienne Montani, the provincial coordinator of First Call – The BC Child and Youth Advocacy Coalition, and former Child and Youth Advocate for the City of Vancouver. She has received awards for her work on behalf of children and youth from the United Way, the Federation of Community Social Services of BC, and the Federation of BC Youth in Care Networks.
Joining Adrienne on the panel were Lyn Adamson, executive director of Powell River’s PREP Society, and City Councillor Russell Brewer. After the three panelists spoke, those present broke out into discussion tables in the areas of housing, child care, food security and education.
